TEO Y ALEX
Papaya Films Original Series II
How do you explain the connection you have with another person, one that is honest, caring and true?
Teo (16) and Alex (19), two restless souls who have formed an incredible bound with each other creating a fragile beauty that makes their friendship such an essential connection.
Papaya Films, a prolific Polish producer, contacted a few young directors of different countries (France, England, Croatia, Singapore, Brazil, Spain, Georgia and Australia) proposing them to reflect on “curiosity” and inviting them to realise a free three-minute-long piece.
The original title of Teo and Alex was “The death will come and it will wear your eyes” but during the process we always called it Teo and Alex (the names of the characters), and that it has remained.
I consider it something very important, something that is very hard to see these days (not to say impossible), that production companies have a department to acquire young, yet unknown talent. It makes you think that they really are interested in you. That they believe in what you do. Thus, it is an incredible way to give young directors strength, visibility and will to go on trying to go further.
During the script creation process we used to Skype, giving each other constant feedback, each of us always enthusiastic about the on going project …
The director was in charge of the production and the team. In my case, I was lucky to have my dear Maruska (One of the creative producers together with Karola) come to Madrid to support and share the adventure with me.
And, even though there were quite many limitations and little time, it was one of the best experiences I have had. And I look very much forward to working with them very soon again.
Lastly, I have to express my gratitude to the entire team that despite the heat and difficulties did extremely well, to my DOP Laurent Poulain who I must have almost driven crazy in the shootings, to my first assistant Alvaro Riesgo for saving me from hell, and to Sara and Mario, the actors, who are simply amazing.
